Abe AuerbachAbe Auerbach began working for Ballerina Pearl fifteen years ago with his wife Miriam, founder of Ballerina. Having earned a Ph. D. degree in chemistry from Yale University, and spending years studying the Japanese processing of cultured pearls, Abe developed many innovations to the pearling trade, most recent being the proprietary bleaching process for the Desert Storm line of pearls.
This process, developed in mid-2001, allows for the first time the bleaching of the Tahitian South Sea cultured pearls. The result is a breathtaking range of colors for South Sea pearls that does not compromise the quality or integrity of the pearls themselves. The pearls are Gemological Institute of America certifiable (GIA) and are currently only available through Perrywinkle’s Fine Jewelry.
Because the timing of the bleaching process developed during the September 11th attacks, Ballerina Pearl is donating 10% of its profits to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust. The DAV Charitable Service Trust is dedicated to building better lives for our nation's disabled veterans and their families. To carry out this responsibility, the Charitable Service Trust supports a broad spectrum of physical and psychological rehabilitation programs, meets the special needs of veterans with specific disabilities such as amputation and blindness, and aids and shelters homeless veterans. In addition, the Trust is a grant maker, expending more than $55.1 million in service to disabled veterans and their dependents since 1988. Ballerina Pearl is grateful to be able to contribute to the DAV Charitable Service Trust.
